Home-In-The-Woods | medium: mixed media drawing | techniques: drawing & paper cut | materials: pen, pencil & paper cut on paper | size: 35 x 26 cm | production date: January 2014
This was the first ever drawing I made of my protagonist ‘Home’, or ‘Homey’, a gunyah (Australian Aboriginal name for a small temporary dwelling or shelter), a nomadic dome home travelling through the woods, ‘woods’ being used as a metaphor for life.

We were camping when I made the drawing and was inspired by our orange dome tent and the black burned off trees of the forest. Straight away the tent became a character with eyes floating in the doorway. Eyes floating in the doorway, NOT eyes on a door, because there is no door. Years after the birth of my Homey I heard one of my favourite gurus say: “Be like two eyeballs, floating in space, with nothing behind them” and I thought: “Yes! That’s exactly it! That’s my Home!”
