it’s autumn deer

lay me on a river raft and cover me with wooly soul let the rhythm of its willing ripples turn my heartbeat into soil

I went to see Patricia Piccinini’s exhibition ‘Metamorphosis’ at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam today. It was absolutely magnificent, both Patricia Piccinini’s work as well as the exhibition! A world bizarre, magical, comforting and lovely. So good, it filled my heart.
All of my belongings from the first 35 years of my life were still in storage in Holland. I came to Australia with only a bag and a box. Now, after 12 years, I started going through those stored boxes. The things you find… 🙂 These four drawings are part of a serie that I made back in 2002. I’ll be bringing them back with me to Australia at the end of June 🙂
Afternoon walk with my mum and dad in the area near their house, there where I grew up.
In about 20 minutes I will set foot in my home country. I haven’t been able to do that for 12 years. Exciting! Exciting times ahead!
After making so many figurative works in the past 12 years I’ve felt a growing hunger for making more abstract works. I’m happy to see that with this work I’ve started ‘pages’ of a new chapter. I’m also happy to see that I can make worthy (for me at least), less labour intensive textile works, because that seems to be a challenge for me 🤭 I love the calming, quiet colour palette of this work and that, although the title directs the viewer towards the original idea, the image leaves space for other interpretations.
Home, a shelter for all
It’s on again, Artrooms Kalamunda Open Studios! Coming weekend April 1 & 2 from 10am till 5pm we will open our art studio doors again! Come have a look at finished pieces and works in progress. Have a chat and hear about the inspiration and stories behind some of the artworks. Hope to see you in my studio! 🙋‍♀️
I had a great day yesterday at the grassroots festival HAND IN HAND. This annual Kidogo Irish Aboriginal festival is celebrating ancient & contemporary Irish Culture & Aboriginal Culture, hand in hand. It’s a festival of friendship & a deeper connection between Irish and Aboriginal people through storytelling, poetry, music, art and more at the beautiful Kidogo Arthouse.
